Anna L. Bowen is a Halifax County native who graduated from Halifax County High School in 2005. She continued her education at The College of William & Mary, double-majoring in International Relations and History. She also studied Italian literature and culture, becoming proficient in the language.
Upon graduating from William & Mary in 2009, she enrolled at Liberty University School of Law. During law school, she excelled at oral argument and brief writing, becoming a member of the Moot Court Board and serving on its Executive Board. Anna also participated in national moot court competitions, traveling across the country representing her school through brief writing and oral argument. She was the 2011-2012 Student Works Editor of the Liberty Legal Journal. In that position, she reviewed and edited student articles for publication. In 2012, Anna graduated from Liberty University School of Law, earning her Juris Doctorate. She then served two years at the Lynchburg Office of the Public Defender, working as an Assistant Public Defender, specializing in domestic relations and juvenile offenses.
In 2014, Anna L. Bowen received the opportunity to return to Halifax, her hometown. She began working for the Halifax County Commonwealth’s Attorney as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney until 2022, then as the Regional Drug Prosecutor until she left the office to enter private practice. Throughout her tenure as a prosecutor, she specialized in prosecuting sexually violent offenses, crimes against children, drug distribution, and murder.
Anna Bowen’s experience protecting society’s most vulnerable has helped her become an understanding, persuasive, and forceful voice for her clients, in and out of the courtroom. She strives to reflect her Halifax values in how she treats each of her clients and everyone with whom she works, holding fast to principles of honesty and integrity in her dealings.
In staying true to her Southside Virginia roots, Anna married Gregory Ullom, another Virginia native, and they are happily raising their daughter in Halifax, instilling in her those same small-town values of kindness and honesty. Anna and her family are active members of Dan River Baptist Church. She enjoys serving her community and helping her neighbors in whatever way possible.
